“Captain America: Civil War” Mid And Post-Credits Scenes

You know that when you walk into a Marvel Studios movie (or any comic book movie, really), you aren’t to leave until the credits finish rolling. Because if you do, you’re bound to miss out on something good.

Captain America: Civil War doesn’t skimp. The Russo Brothers give us both mid- and post-credits scenes to sate our hunger until Doctor Strange graces theaters in the fall.

Be warned: Spoilers Ahead. Turn back now if you don’t want anything to be ruined. Fair warning.

The mid-credits scene fills in a little bit more story on the future of the infamous Winter Soldier. We see Bucky getting prepped, what’s left of his metal arm bandaged up. The camera pans over to reveal another freeze chamber, with Captain America coming in and asking if he’s sure about what he wants to do. “I can’t trust my own mind,” Bucky tells him. Until someone figures out how to turn off the Hydra super-soldier part of his brain, it’s best if he stays on ice. Cap watches as Bucky goes under.

In a cutaway, T’Challa (Black Panther) approaches Cap, who thanks him for what he’s doing. “You know if they find out he’s here, they’ll come for him,” Cap warns.

“Let them try,” T’Challa replies as the camera pans away into a foggy jungle to reveal one of our first looks at Wakanda, aside from the freighter in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Now, Marvel doesn’t have Black Panther slated until July 6, 2018, so we still have two years of movies before Chadwick Boseman gives us an even deeper look at the Black Panther. But from the glimpses–well, more than glimpses–that Captain America: Civil War gave, it’s bound to be something out of this world.

The post-credits scene, however, is much lighter on its delivery. Not so much Howard the Duck in Guardians of the Galaxy, but still highly entertaining.

Peter Parker is back in his bedroom in Queens, attempting to take off one of his web-shooters and explain to Aunt May that his black eye is the result of a fight at school with a kid named Steve.

That’s when his web-shooter projects a hologram onto the ceiling… and Aunt May decides to barge in with an ice pack. Peter hides the projection quickly and holds his eye.

“Well, I hope you got a few good licks in,” she says.

“Yeah, I got quite a few in, actually,” he replies, then remarking about how Steve’s friend was “huge.” As Aunt May leaves, she closes the door and Peter gets a better look at the Tony Stark-created hologram.

It cuts to black, only to have three words grace the screen that had my entire theater applauding: “Spider-Man Will Return.”

Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters July 7, 2017, but did he sure make an impact in Captain America: Civil War. Here’s hoping Marvel Studios treats him well and we don’t have to sit through Uncle Ben dying yet again (…spoiler warning?).

The credits scenes have become a staple of Marvel movies, and they always seem to leave us anxious for more. From Loki surviving that fall from Asgard to Thanos grinning about courting death to our first glimpse at the Collector to even the reveal of Cap and Falcon having Bucky, we’re always waiting for the next big thing. And the wait is almost always worth it.

Our own Steve Lam will have his review of Captain America: Civil War up shortly!
