Suicide Squad’s Margot Robbie thinks Harley Quinn is wildly endearing

Suicide Squad is less than three months away and with it comes the big screen debut of some of DC’s biggest and baddest villains. A big part of Suicide Squad being a success will be proper portrayal of characters from the comics on the big screen. In no case is this more true than Harley Quinn, one of DC’s most popular characters. Other characters in Suicide Squad may be seeking to turn their life around or get redemption, but not Harley Quinn. Much like the Joker, she lives for chaos, and really likes killing people. Luckily, Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie, who is playing Harley Quinn in the film, seems to totally understand this:

"She doesn’t even have superpowers…She’s just a psychopath who runs around gleefully killing people—she finds joy in causing mayhem, which makes her weirdly endearing and fun to watch."

And Suicide Squad director David Ayer has very high praise for Robbie and her commitment to the role and how much she was willing to do:

"…[ the role demands] a lot of heavy lifting for an actor. But [Robbie’s] a tough girl, and she’s incredibly smart and mature beyond her years. She has ridiculous depth, and she’s never been coddled, so she’s very physically courageous. The things she was doing herself as far as stunts, you wouldn’t believe. There’s only a handful of actors who do that sort of work themselves."

It really sounds like they understand Harley Quinn. Will the other characters be equally understood in Suicide Squad? Like Deadshot can’t be Will Smith, he needs to be Deadshot. As long as they understand all that, Suicide Squad will be a success. We’ll find out if they do when it releases in theaters August 5th.
