Agents Of SHIELD Season 3 Finale Synopsis: “Absolution”/”Ascension”

Agents of SHIELD celebrates the end of Season Three with a two-hour season finale that will reveal Hive’s master plan, and also the identity of who will die in Daisy’s vision of the future.

In “Emancipation” on last week’s Agents of SHIELD, two events in the Marvel Cinematic Universe converged: Brigadier General Talbot learning about Daisy’s defection to Hive; and the fallout from Captain America: Civil War.

With the Sokovia Accords now ratified, Talbot paid Coulson and SHIELD a visit to make sure that the Inhumans were now registered. Coulson, of course, was adamant against that whole plan. However, Lincoln, still stuck in his power-neutralizing Inhuman cell, wanted out of his “prison.” What better way to attain a get-out-of-jail-free card than to agree to Talbot’s demands?

Meanwhile, on Hive’s side of things, his experiment to turn humans into Inhumans worked—in the form of grotesque-looking obedient slaves. Hey, at least he succeeded … somewhat. Whatever the results, Hive was happy. And he was ready to make more of them. I guess they had faces only a Hive could love.

Little did everybody know, Lincoln and Daisy were secretly messaging each other. They formed a plan for Lincoln to steal a Quinjet and make his way to Hive’s current headquarters. With Daisy’s hacking skills, Lincoln mounted a daring escape and broke out of SHIELD.

It turns out that Coulson and team pulled a fast one on everybody. Lincoln never escaped and was actually in on the plan from the start. He couldn’t trust Daisy anymore and wanted her back, even if that meant tricking her. Then, who was on that Quinjet?

After reaching it’s destination, Hive found out that SHIELD sent Lash to him. After a fight with Hive and his soldiers, the real purpose of Lash’s existence was shown—it was destined for him to save Daisy. Lash was able to extract and destroy Hive’s mind-controlling nanites—bringing Daisy back from her brainwashed state. Ultimately and sadly though, Lash was killed by Hellfire.

As the team regrouped, viewers saw the regret and guilt wash over Daisy’s face. We know that Coulson and SHIELD will never blame Daisy for what she’s done. The only question is: will Daisy ever forgive herself? However, first thing’s first. They still have to worry about who dies in Daisy’s vision. We’ll just have to see in the two-hour season finale.
