Of Course We Are Getting A Harley Quinn Movie
Harley Quinn is reportedly getting her own movie in development before Suicide Squad even comes out
Suicide Squad isn’t even out for a few more months, but one of the most buzz-worthy things about the trailers we have seen so far is Margot Robbie as the first person to ever play DC’s most popular female character Harley Quinn on screen. It really seems like if the movie does well, Robbie as Harley Quinn would easily be one of the breakout stars and practically a lock for her own solo film.
Well it appears Warner Bros. has enough confidence in both Harley Quinn and actress Margot Robbie to take action before Suicide Squad is even out. The Hollywood Reporter is well, reporting that Warner Bros. is developing a Harley Quinn movie.
But it won’t necessarily be a solo film. If anything, it sounds like this might be something of a DC female superhero showcase, possibly involving the Birds of Prey and Batgirl. The Birds of Prey for those not familiar is an all female DC super hero team. Batgirl, Black Canary and Huntress are usually core members, but everybody from Katana to Poison Ivy has been a member at one point.
This is a project Margot Robbie is reportedly already heavily involved in. She was a driving force in pushing for such a film not long after landing the part of Harley Quinn. She also brought on a writer for the film, and will serve as a producer on the movie.

No further details are available, but remember that Warner Bros. recently announced two movies, and has done a lot of shuffling around lately. We could be seeing this Harley Quinn film as soon as 2018 (though 2019 or 2020 seems more likely given the current schedule). I’m all for this, especially as Marvel, who has had so much more time to make good on some female superhero films, just seems to be saying a lot, but not actually doing anything about it. In the meantime, we could have a couple awesome DC superheroine films before Captain Marvel or Black Widow gets one.
