Jared Leto considered it to be an honor to play The Joker in Suicide Squad

The Joker may be one of the best represented characters in the history of media. He’s certainly had his ups and downs in the comics, but nearly every actor who has played the role on the big or small screen has gotten high praise for the role. Cesar Romero. Jack Nicholson, Mark Hamill and Heath Ledger all turned in iconic, distinct and memorable performances to the point that any one is still a contender for best Joker ever.

So Jared Leto has a lot to live up to, being the latest person to play The Joker, this time in the upcoming Suicide Squad film. Luckily he seems to realize what an important role this is and not just some random comic book throwaway movie role. We’ve of course heard about his intense method acting and bizarre behavior to really get into the character of The Joker while filming Suicide Squad, but what did he feel his experience was like on set?

Jared Leto was on Ellen recently, and talked about his role as The Joker in Suicide Squad, calling it “a real honor” to even be asked to play the part, and “the most fun I’ve ever had on a film in my life”. Check out a clip from the interview below:

Granted, when your resume mostly consists of films like Thin Red Line, Fight Club, and Dallas Buyers Club (i.e. mostly highly acclaimed films, but not anything that seems like fun), getting inside the head of one of comics’ most homicidal psychopaths might seem like a really good time indeed. Will Jared Leto define the Joker in a whole new way like those before him? He looks pretty awesome in the trailers so far. Suicide Squad opens August 5th in theaters.
