Which Barbara will be in Gotham season 3?

Barbara Kean may have undergone the largest character transformation in all of Gotham. Which is saying a lot when you consider how suddenly and quickly characters developed and changed within the series.  Her character as Jim’s struggling alcoholic girlfriend took a drastic turn into her becoming a murderer and villain within the series.    Fast forward toward the end of this season and we see Barbara’s old character return for a short time until we are led to believe she betrays Jim then again surprises us by proving loyal to him. This constant flip flopping of her character is confusing and has left us wondering which Barbara we will see in season 3?

When actress Erin Richards (Barbara Kean) was recently asked about her character as comic-con she seemed to hint at Barbara truly returning to her old self.  Saying this of her character:  “I don’t think she’s bad, she just wants to find her place. She attaches all her hope on people.”   While this could be simply a misdirection as is so often the case with unpredictable shows like Gotham I tend to think that we are going to see again the better side of the character.

While not much is known about how her character will be viewed or if it will be viewed much at all within season 3 it is clear that she will play some part in the story of season 3.  I think we will see both the old Barbara return but with a few more tricks that she would not have used in past. Either way it seems as if her character may turn back into one that we can sympathize with and relate to the Barbara of season one. See Erin Richards talk about this during the MCM London Comic Con in the video below:

One thing that I do believe we will never see is her completely returning to the better side in Gotham. That is for one reason alone the better side is represented solely by Jim (notice I said better not perfect) and Bruce Wayne. Obviously Jim has little patience left for Barbara so I doubt we will see their characters working together all that much in the future. That leaves Bruce Wayne as the only other good alternative and I very much doubt a Bruce Wayne and Barbara Kean story is in order.
