Be The Batman In Arkham VR
A new virtual reality game starring Batman, Arkham VR is coming later this year to PlayStation VR for the PS4
We had definitely heard rumors of a new Batman game in development, but we didn’t know it would be Rocksteady Games, who seemed to have pretty much swore off Batman after Arkham Knight, and we certainly didn’t know it would take this very new radical form. Sony is launching their own VR peripherial, PlayStation VR, this October, and one of the game for it will be the newly announced Arkham VR, which was shown of during their E3 2106 press conference yesterday.
The trailer for Arkham VR really doesn’t reveal much of anything itself. It’s just really a long shot of Batman’s costume, with Mark Hamill doing his usual awesome job as the Joker narrating the trailer:
However Game Informer did get a chance to actually try Arkham VR and give us an idea of what the game is like. The demo itself was broken into two parts. One part you got to actually put on the suit, equip the grapnel gun and throw batarangs around. But apparently that is not the main part of the game. Arkham VR actually focuses on investigation. Specifically, the investigations play out much like the ones in previous Arkham games, where you can search for clues, recreate events and rewind and fast forward things. The specific demo had Batman investigating the death of Nightwing (note this has not happened in the comics or the Arkham game series and therefore is likely not canon in any form) and had you as the Dark Knight analyzing his suit recorder to try and piece together what happened.

Honestly this description sounds a little disappointing. I’m actually very much for a game that focuses on the investigative side of Batman, but recreating the simplistic investigation mode that literally takes no actual detective work from the Arkham series is not the way I feel that should go. Also it might be a cool novelty, but Arkham VR definitely seems like one of those “experiences” where after you’ve done it a couple times the novelty wears off, but it would be nice if I’m wrong. the PlayStation VR launches October 13th for $399, and Arkham VR is also due in October but was not confirmed as a launch day title.
