Twenty One Pilots releases the first music video for Suicide Squad

So soundtrack albums for movies totally used to be a major thing. Not just the score mind you, usually songs by musical artists either used in the movie or “inspired by” the film. Sometimes they even had themed music videos. Now while it may not be totally unusual for certain movies (especially ones with a heavy music influence) to have an album with actual tracks by artists these days, it’s not very common.

In fact Suicide Squad is certainly the first comic book movie I can think of in years that actually has a proper soundtrack album. Like Spider-Man 3 is probably the last one I can think of off the top of my head. On top of that, it has at least a couple videos we know of, one reportedly involving Jared Leto donning the Joker make-up again.

Well. Twenty-One Pilots’ “Heathens” is not that video, but it is the first Suicide Squad music video released. In it the band seemingly gets sent to a Belle Reve-like prison (which is where all the members of the Suicide Squad are being held at the beginning of the movie) and sing about how their friends are “heathens” and you need to be careful around them. Then they jam out with the prison population, like one is wont to do in a music video. Check out the video for “Heathens” below, which does feature some never before seen footage from Suicide Squad:

Granted, I’m not a huge music guy by any means, but I really like this song (the video is whatever, but the song is good so that’s fine). So hopefully it’s indicative of the rest of the Suicide Squad soundtrack, which is expected to release alongside the movie on August 5th.
