Batgirl & The Birds Of Prey are on the hunt for Oracle

While some series are ending with DC’s huge Rebirth event, some series are being resurrected. Batgirl & The Birds Of Prey is probably the most notable. Like the original series, it features Barbara Gordon, Helena Bertinelli and Dinah Lance, but things have changed quite a bit. In the original series, Barbara Gordon was the wheelchair-bound Oracle, now in Batgirl & The Birds Of Prey, she’s back to being Batgirl again. And there’s a new Oracle, but not one that is putting the name to good use. Batgirl and Black Canary’s investigation brings them into the path of Huntress, who decides to team up with them to help hunt down this new Oracle, but she and Batgirl do not see eye to eye on things.

Julia & Shawna Benson talk about where Batgirl & Huntress are at in Batgirl & The Birds Of Prey, and How Black Canary has to act as a mediator between the two:

"Barbara has just returned from her travels overseas (as in Hope Larson’s “Batgirl” run), so she’s in a good place. She’s looking to become harder, better, stronger, faster, and this Oracle news puts her laser focused on something more personal than “just” protecting Gotham from the usual baddies. She and Dinah get along like a house afire, but Batgirl and Huntress have trouble seeing eye-to-eye when both their personal missions come to a head.Black Canary finds herself as the mediator between the oil and vinegar that is Batgirl and Huntress, and can be trusted to find the third way. She’s got something they don’t have — a metahuman superpower — but doesn’t act superior because of it. In fact, she’s a bit cooler, more rock and roll when it comes to the team dynamics. Dinah’s anger is directed at the bad guys they’re taking down and not at her teammates."

I think bringing back Birds Of Prey, especially with Batgirl as a fully functional member, is one of the best things to come out of early post-Rebirth. It should be a very fun series that I look forward to checking out. Batgirl & The Birds Of Prey #1 is out July 20th.
