Preacher To Get A Second Season

Halfway into its first season, AMC has already decided to bring the gang from Preacher back for Season 2.

Of all the comic books for AMC to choose from, I never thought we would see a television show based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s Preacher.

Ever.

Preacher tells the story of the Reverend Jesse Custer (played by Dominic Cooper) and his quest to understand the creature known as Genesis that has taken up residence in his mind. Along for the ride with Jesse is his ex-girlfriend Tulip (Ruth Negga) and the Irish vampire Cassidy (Joe Gilgun).

Preacher was easily one of the most offensive, outrageous and over the top comics ever produced and no one, and I mean no one, ever thought it could be made into a TV show without losing much of what made the comic so special.

But somehow executive producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg and showrunner Sam Catlin have managed to do the impossible. Preacher arrived on AMC to both critical raves and the approval of the rabid fans of the source material, which should have been a hopeless task.

And now they are all being rewarded as AMC has announced that Preacher has officially been renewed for a second season.

Season 2 of Preacher will include 13 episodes, up from this season’s ten and Rogen, Goldberg and Catlin will all be back. It is assumed that all the primary cast members will also return, but who knows what could happen between the end of Season 1 and when the second season begins production.

While Preacher is far from the national phenomena that The Walking Dead is, the numbers are still solid enough that AMC is willing to go ahead with a second season. And who knows? With the reveal that the series is renewed, maybe it will help it gain more traction with fans who may have been on the fence about watching another new genre series.

Preacher airs on Sunday nights at 9:00 PM EST on AMC.
