Stephen Colbert Makes Fun Of Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad translates very differently in Canadian according to Stephen Colbert

Suicide Squad is coming our way in just over a month but of course the hype machine has already been building up. What about jokes? Can jokes about Suicide Squad be considered part of the hype machine? It raises awareness of the movie after all, especially on a popular late night talk show.

Stephen Colbert, host of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, is a noted comic book fan, but he’s certainly not above poking a little fun at the latest comic book movies (nor should he be). In one of his recent bits, Stephen Colbert talks about how his show broadcasts in different countries all over the world and some things are changed to translate more properly to that country. He pokes fun at TV shows and politicians, but specifically mentions the upcoming Suicide Squad movie in the bit as well, claiming that for our neighbors to the north in Canada, Suicide Squad translates to “Mopey Avengers Go To Hot Topic”. Is he wrong? I mean, they did just launch a whole line of Suicide Squad merch AT HOT TOPIC. Watch the bit below:

Of course, being that The Late Show With Stephen Colbert is on CBS, which is owned by Warner Bros., which of course also owns DC Comics and is making Suicide Squad and every other DC movie (because hey unlike Marvel, all their properties are actually under one roof for the purposes of making movies) I’m sure if this joke would’ve been a problem, it would’ve been pulled. But hey, people were making the Hot Topic jokes the minute we saw the first pictures of Jared Leto as the Joker, so this is hardly anything new. Suicide Squad opens in theaters August 5th, and why yes you can get a wide array of Suicide Squad merch at Hot Topic right now,!
