Arrow: 6 Ways To Fix Season 5
By Andrew Zwaan
4. The Show Is Titled Arrow, Not Arrow and All His Crime Fighting Buddies
In Season 1, when Oliver was on his own, doing the crime fighting all by himself, was when the action was at its best. For example, in that same season, in Episode 21, when he is looking for Walter, that hallway fight where he took down something like nine guards all on his own was totally awesome. Now, its Oliver, Diggle, Thea, and up until about five episodes ago, included Laurel as well.
I get that they want to do this Team Arrow thing, but the fights were just so much more exciting and impressive when Oliver was the only one out there. Not only that, but the fight scenes have also decreased in quality since the show started, too. In the later seasons, there are way too many flips and cheesy looking movements. Make the fights more realistic and believable.
Additionally, Oliver only does hand-to-hand combat. He has a bow for a reason, might as well use it. I think it’d be pretty sick to have a scene of him, and only him, on a rooftop, basically sniping dudes from above with his bow. That would not only show off his archery skills, but it would also provide a much needed stealth scene to the series. This isn’t Call of Duty, not everything needs to be running-and-gunning.
On a side note, they should really change up the fight music. I understand including it right before a commercial break, but having the exact same electric piano song in every single fight gets really old. The show has stuck with the same music for three years now. Three years! Think about that.
