Fan Trailer Makes Killing Joke Look Like Graphic Novel
Fan-made Killing Joke Trailer looks stunning
To be honest, fans of The Killing Joke should be happy we are getting a movie that appears to be fairly accurate to the source material. It’s a super violent and controversial book and the events were even recently retconned out of existence (though it was never really meant to be an in-canon book in the first place). But still, there’s just something missing from the movie, and it’s the distinct style of the artists on The Killing Joke graphic novel, Brian Bolland and John Higgins. The Killing Joke has a wonderfully unique aesthetic, and while the movie seems to be trying to find a middle ground between that and the style seen in producer Bruce Timm’s various DC animated works, it might’ve just worked better if they made it directly in the style of the comic.
And in fact, that is pretty much proven this fan-made redrawn trailer by Youtube user Plan Making Mammals. The trailer we’ve already seen is redone in the style and Bolland and Higgins and it frankly pops a lot more and has a lot more style to it. You don’t even have to take my word for it, check out the redone trailer and then a comparison video below:

Maybe it’s a budget thing or maybe the just wanted to go with darker, more muted colors because god forbid a Batman movie, animated or otherwise, be colorful. But this is a perfect example of how you can be more colorful and still present a dark, mature story. Killing Joke will probably still be a great movie, but it could’ve looked amazing like this. The Killing Joke movie releases July26th on digital download and on Blu-Ray and DVD August 2nd.
