Ah, what’s a big summer movie without some lame game tie-in these days? Actually we are relatively speaking kind of lucky. They no longer bother wasting money on expensive tie-ins that might actually fool some of us into buying them after we’ve seen the movie and want to experience more of it. These days, most movie tie-ins are forgettable mobile releases that really we don’t even have to give a second thought.

But apparently, that may not be the case for the tie-in for the upcoming Suicide Squad film, Suicide Squad Special Ops, which dropped on iOS and Android platforms yesterday. I’m not speaking from personal experience, but Touch Arcade speaks fairly highly of the game, and it does look really impressive for a mobile first-person shooter. Add to that the fact that apparently aside from an optional trailer for the Suicide Squad movie at the title screen, Suicide Squad Special Ops doesn’t feature the usual mobile game trappings like constant (or really any) ads or monetization, it simply offers a simplistic but fun way to play as several of the characters from the upcoming movie (Deadshot, El Diablo & Harley Quinn, which I get that she’s popular but her weapon is a baseball bat, seems odd for a first-person shooter). Sadly I don’t really have a device that can play this, I mean I have an android phone, but there’s not much space on it. But it looks like  fun and while nothing revolutionary it would be nice to see more games like this where they are just fun simple well-made games promoting a product. Suicide Squad Special Ops is out on iOS and Android now and the Suicide Squad movie opens in theaters August 5th.
