Tara Strong promises fans won’t be disappointed with Barbara Gordon in Killing Joke

The long-awaited animated adaptation of the seminal Killing Joke graphic novel is nearly here! And as much as we’ve talked about Batman and Joker in the film, another key element of course is Barbara Gordon/Batgirl. In fact since the Killing Joke doesn’t quite have enough material in the original story to be a feature-length film, Batgirl’s part is actually getting a significant extension in the film. Tara Strong, who voiced Batgirl in several animated films (as well as Harley Quinn in the video game Batman: Arkham Asylum) is reprising the role of Barbara Gordon/Batgirl for The Killing Joke. In the video below she talks about working with Batman animated mainstays Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill in the past and joining up with them again for The Killing Joke:

The Killing Joke is an adaptation of the seminal 1988 graphic novel of the same name written by Alan Moore & illustrated by Brian Bolland. The animated adaptation of The Killing Joke will feature an expanded story (Kevin Conroy referred to it as more something packaged inside a Batgirl/Batman story) as well as a musical number performed by Mark Hamill based on Joker’s monologue from the graphic novel. The film will have it’s world debut next week at the biggest convention in the U.S., The San Diego Comic Con. Then it will have a one-night theatrical run in theaters through Fathom Events on July 25th before being available to purchase digitally on July 26th. Then finally The Killing Joke will release on Blu-Ray and DVD August 2nd. Look for a review of the film from Caped Crusades at latest not long after the Blu-Ray/DVD release. The Killing Joke movie is Rated R and is a dark and violent film and is absolutely not for children.
