Gotham: Mad Hatter Cast
A Walking Dead alum has been cast in the role of The Mad Hatter for Gotham
The Mad Hatter is not a Batman villain that often gets mentioned in the same circles as Penguin, Two-Face or Joker, but he’s a classic Batman villain nonetheless, and he has been teased as coming to the pre-Batman TV show Gotham since even before season two started. Now the role has been officially cast for season 3 of the show, so we are most definitely getting an appearance from the character sometime this season.
Samuel Benedict from season 6 of The Walking Dead has been cast in the role of Jervis Tetch for season three of Gotham, and the Mad Hatter’s description is definitely a twist on what most are familiar with. In Gotham, he will be a hypnotist searching for his sister Alice, who went missing in the city years ago and “who know how deep down the rabbit hole he will go to find her”. Doesn’t necessarily sound like a villain, but odds are he will resort to nefarious methods to help find his sister.

It actually doesn’t make him sound like nearly as much of a villain as the creeper Tetch we are used to. In Batman: The Animated Series, the Mad Hatter and many other origins he is not a hypnotist but a brilliant yet disturbed scientist specializing in mind control technology, occasionally obsessing over a woman named Alice. But he’s certainly been turned into a much darker character in both the comics and video games such as the Batman Arkham series. No word on when The Mad Hatter will be popping up on Gotham, but I guess since he’s already been cast we’ll see him before the Winter hiatus. Gotham is currently filming for season 3 and returns September 19th on Fox.
