Comic-Con 2016: 26 Things We Hope To See
By Steve Lam
#4 – MCU: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Footage
Guardians of the Galaxy was a total hit for the Marvel Studios. However, when the film was first announced, audiences were confused as to who these characters were and what the story was about. And then the first trailer hit. Reactions were more akin to “okay, this is weird.” We have a linguistically challenged tree and a rude talking raccoon. Then we have the goofy (formerly chubby) dude from Parks and Recreation playing a hero. Yeah … okay …
Fast-forward to opening weekend and people couldn’t stop talking about Guardians of the Galaxy. Overnight, laymen who only knew the names “Spider-Man” and “Iron Man” learned the names Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot. Tears were shed during the finale and audiences cheered at the end credits message that there will be a sequel.
And then, like that, not another word from Marvel. That’s because writer/director James Gunn went right back to working on the screenplay for the film’s sophomore outing. A title was announced last year—Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2—and production recently started with Gunn tweeting out a behind-the-scenes countdown image. We hope Comic-Con 2016 will give us some footage or the first teaser trailer.
