The Killing Joke is getting an unprecedented second night in theaters

Maybe they should’ve just gone with a full on theatrical release. The animated adaptation of The Killing Joke was already highly anticipated when it was just coming to Blu-Ray/DVD. Then it was announced it was getting a one-night showing in select theaters through Fathom Events. It received the widest theater roll-out in Fathom Events history with it being played on over 1,000 screens across the country this coming Monday, July 25th.

Can’t manage to see it July 25th? Well what about the day after? In a unprecedented move, Fathom Events is adding a second night to screening of The Killing Joke, reportedly due to popular demand. That will be Tuesday, July 26th, with showings at 7 p.m. & 10 p.m. local time. They haven’t added any additional screens, but with the movie showing at over 1,000 theaters across the country, there will hoepfully be one near you if you want to see it on the big screen. You can check out what theaters The Killing Joke will be playing at on these two special nights at Fathom Events website.

Hopefully this is the start of a trend because I would love to see more DC animated films get theater runs. Though they’d probably have to be something close to the level of Killing Joke to get this kind of treatment. Before it’s now two-night theatrical run, The Killing Joke movie will have it’s world premiere during this week’s San Diego Comic Con. Then it will be out for digital download on July 26th. Then the Blu-Ray/DVD release will follow on August 2nd. You can expect a review from Caped Crusades sometime in that period, probably not long after the Blu-Ray/DVD release at the latest.
