Telltale’s Batman Has Multiplayer?

Telltale’s new multiplayer feature in Batman will be in all future Telltale games as well

There are few things worse for a video game when multi-player is clearly just shoe-horned in because someone wanted to check off some arbitrary box of what a video game should have. You often get a feature that is often virtually ignored (like say Uncharted’s multi-player) even if it’s perfectly decent or can actually detract from the main game in some cases and it just seems like it was a waste of time and resources.

Telltale Games are a fixed story-telling experience that doesn’t really seem to suit itself to multi-player in any shape or form, so you think those games would be safe. But starting with their upcoming Batman game, all Telltale Games will have this multi-player mode. But here’s the surprising part: this multi-player not only makes sense for Telltale Games, but has the potential to be pretty cool.

The mode is titled “Crowd Play” and will come with two variations. One where other people will have a say in what decisions you make, and one where you can override these decisions if it’s not what you want to do. Percentages for each choice will be displayed. “Crowd Play” mode is certainly ideal for anybody who wants to stream their games, but word is right now there’s a lot of latency with streaming for this mode, but it is something Telltale is working to fix.

So to recap, this “Crowd Control” feature will be making it’s debut in Telltale’s Batman, and as of now will be implemented in all Telltale Games going forward. It sounds like a pretty cool idea. The first episode of Telltale’s Batman launches next week, August 2nd. We’ll be sure to have a review of the game out that same week so stay tuned!
