DC All Access Talks Batgirl #1
Batgirl’s new team talks about her upcoming journey on the other end of the world
Post-Rebirth, Batgirl is taking a break from the relatively small and insulated (yet still villain-filled) world of Burnside and going all the way to Asia learn from the best teachers in the world and become a better hero. Her first stop? Japan, to seek out a legendary crime fighter. Of course, leaving Burnside behind doesn’t mean leaving crimefighting behind, as Barbara Gordon will face all new villains that will offer new challenges in this land.
Batgirl will also have a new creative team heading up her book with writer Hope Larson and artist Rafael Albuquerque. The two talked with DC All Access about what is in store for Batgirl in issue #1 and beyond:

In my opinion, Batgirl, both under Gail Simone’s and Brendan Fletcher’s run, was one of the better titles of the New 52 era, but that may have at least partially been because it was removed from a lot of the grim and serious tone other titles were clinging to, especially when she went off to college and became “Batgirl of Burnside”.
This is one of the few titles post-Rebirth undergoing not just a change in creative teams but also major shift in premise and scenery. I’m sure they could’ve continued Barbara Gordon’s adventures in Burnside and it would’ve still been fine and fun, but obviously shaking things up like this, even for a little while, gives us something really fresh to check out. I am hopeful at some point she’ll return to Burnside because her friends there are some really fun and interesting characters, but I’m also very interested to see where her adventures in this distant foreign land take her. Batgirl #1 is available now.
