Who Was Cut From Suicide Squad?

Killer Croc replaced one of director David Ayer’s original choices for Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad is made up of a pretty wide range of villains from all walks of life and all with very different abilities. Some are very well known and some are more obscure. Due the very nature of Task Force X’s missions, the roster of Suicide Squad has changed many times over the years. David Ayer has talked before about how he picked his roster for the first movie appearance of the team. But one member in the upcoming movie wasn’t his first choice. He wanted a big scary monster character, but it was not Killer Croc originally, as David Ayer explained in a Twitter Q & A today:

"So, one of the characters I was thinking about for the squad line-up was King Shark, but we realized it would take a lot of work – a lot of CG work. We actually ended up going with Killer Croc who turned out to be the right guy for the job."

Well, there had been rumors for awhile that King Shark would make an appearance in Suicide Squad, though that seemed far less likely when he started regularly popping up on The Flash TV show since Warner Bros didn’t seem extremely comfortable sharing characters between movies & TV (though it seems like with Geoff Johns getting a lot more power, that attitude is lightening up).

It also makes sense as David Ayer has repeatedly stated his preference for practical effects when possible. But still, this doesn’t rule out King Shark appearing in a future film, especially if David Ayer is not at the helm. Hey they need someone to replace Slipknot when his head explodes! Suicide Squad opens in theaters next Friday, August 5th.
