Over the weekend, at the Wynonna Earp panel at 2016 International Comic-Con: San Diego, the whole cast revealed that the series was officially green-lit for a second season. The show is based on the IDW Publishing comic book series created and written by Beau Smith, and is produced by SEVEN24 Films and IDW Entertainment.
Wynonna Earp features the direct descendant of famed lawman Wyatt Earp as she battles Revenants and other supernatural creatures. The series was developed for TV by showrunner and executive producer Emily Andras, and stars Melanie Scrofano as Earp, Shamier Anderson, Tim Rozon as Doc Holliday, and Dominique Provost-Chalkley. The show is executive produced by SEVEN24’s Jordy Randall and Tom Cox, IDW’s Ted Adams and David Ozer, Banditos Yanquis’ Todd Berger, and Circle of Confusion’s Rick Jacobs.
The new series quickly found a passionate audience with a vocal presence on social media, including the advent of hashtags such as #Earpers and the “shipping” of two of its female characters.
Wynonna Earp won the E! News TV Scoop Award for Best New Series of 2016. “I’m absolutely thrilled we have the opportunity to deliver more of our witty, female-led, kickass, diverse supernatural series to our passionate fan base around the world,” said Emily Andras.
IDW continues to publish a new Wynonna Earp comic book series, which launched earlier this year. The series is written by Smith and currently features art from Lora Innes and Jay Fotos. The sixth issue hit comic shops everywhere this week.
The second season of Wynonna Earp will premiere on Syfy in 2017 and run for ten episodes.
