Red Hood gets a slightly less ridiculous ressurection in Red Hood & The Outlaws: Rebirth #1

Everybody gets resurrected in comics eventually. Everybody except Jason Todd and Uncle Ben. For literally decades, that had been the unwritten rule in comics. These were two people you just didn’t bring back. Well, they eventually broke the Jason Todd rule, and it resulted in one of the cooler characters in DC in a long time, as most people really like Jason Todd as the Red Hood.

But the way Jason Todd was originally brought back might be one of the most absurd things in the history of comics, and you know that is saying a lot. How did he come back from the dead after being beaten to death by the Joker? Superboy Prime. PUNCHED REALITY SO HARD HE BROKE IT. WHAT? HOW? WHY? Like seriously, wouldn’t that make Superboy Prime, at least if he’s really pissed off, somewhere near the power level of Dr. Manhattan?

Super Boy Prime hasn’t really been around for awhile now though, and Jason Todd as Red Hood has continued to be part of the DC Universe, even patching things up with Batman just a little bit. It was hinted back in The New 52 continuity that Todd had a new, simpler resurrection story and now Red Hood & The Outlaws: Rebirth #1 confirms that.

In Red Hood and The Outlaws: Rebirth #1, Jason Todd is brought back to life by being dipped in a Lazarus Pit, the same thing that has kept Ra’s Al Ghul alive for possibly centuries. Sure, it’s a bit of ridiculous, but the more normal comic book ridiculous, and something that’s been established for awhile rather than DUDE PUNCHES REALITY AND BRINGS BACK A DEAD GUY.

Red Hood & The Outlaws: Rebirth #1 focuses on Jason Todd, his death and resurrection, and his relationship with Batman before and after his death. It looks like we’ll have to wait til the actual Red Hood & The Outlaws #1 to see this bizarro (no pun intended) version of DC’s trinity with Bizarro and Artemis. Red Hood & The Outlaws: Rebirth #1 is available now.
