Suicide Squad: Lots Of Joker Scenes Cut

Jared Leto claims a lot of his scenes were cut from the theatrical release of Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad is out Friday, but reviews are already in, and they are not kind to say the least. But there are some positives  even in most of the negative reviews. Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller have all received pretty universal praise across the board, they just apparently need to be in a better movie.

And what of Jared Leto’s Joker? Though not quite as universal, his performance in Suicide Squad as the Joker has gotten mostly high-praise as well, seeming to make him a worthy addition to the line of great performances of the clown prince of crime on the big screen. The most common complaint is that he has only about 15 minutes of screen time, and seems just kind of shoved in there much like Wonder Woman was shoved into Batman v Superman, even if she was awesome in it.

Well, apparently that may be chalked up to editing, as apparently Jared Leto filmed a lot more than 15 minutes worth of scenes for Suicide Squad, but a lot of that didn’t end up in the film:

"There are a lot of scenes that didn’t make it to the final film. Hopefully they will see the light of day. Who knows."

Now, without seeing these scenes, it’s obviously very hard to say why they were cut. Maybe they were just redundant, maybe David Ayer felt Leto was more effective if he’s not even the movie as much. Maybe they could’ve completely changed the film and made it a lot better, or even worse. Odds are we will see those scenes at some point, hopefully whenever Suicide Squad comes out on video. For now, enjoy what little time you get with Jared Leto as the Joker when Suicide Squad opens in just two days on August 5th.
