Suicide Squad: Enough Cut Footage For A Joker Film?
Jared Leto certainly doesn’t seem horribly happy with the finished product of Suicide Squad
Most of the stars of Suicide Squad have been very supportive of the film in the wake of bad reviews against critics. Claiming good old standbys like “it’s for the fans” or “critics just don’t like these movies”. Jared Leto on the other hand, while not condemning the movie outright, doesn’t seem incredibly happy that not only does he have a minor role with no impact in the film, because he shot a lot more footage than that, but thinks the film should’ve been edgier:
"I think that I brought so much to the table in every scene that it was probably more about filtering all of the insanity, because I wanted to give a lot of options, and I think there’s probably enough footage in this film for a Joker movie. If I were to die tomorrow, maybe the studio would roll something out.I always wished this film was Rated R, and I had actually said that when we were starting that if a film was ever going to be rated R it should be the one about the villains."

Leto might be exaggerating a bit, but even if he isn’t, just because there’s enough footage of him shot to be the length of a feature film doesn’t mean you could slap it together and make something resembling a film. Of course, that actually seems to be the DC film pattern these days, where these films are so hastily and shoddily edited that they seem severely disjointed and missing a bunch of stuff.
As far as Suicide Squad being rated R, I think it could’ve worked as a PG-13 film (and sort of does, I enjoyed it, it just wasn’t great or anything), but you make a film about these psychopathic killers with a director who is used to doing edgy, R-rated films, it should probably be an R-rated movie…
