“Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” Season 4: Crossover With Netflix?
San Diego Comic-Con always brings out the best news snippets for our nerdy hearts. This year’s ‘Con was no exception for “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD.”
In addition to the news about Ghost Rider joining our SHIELD compatriots onscreen, Clark Gregg had a great drop of information that came out a few weeks back. At a panel for Zachary Levi’s Nerd HQ, he said this:
"At some point, I think it will start to cross more. Now that we’re at 10 O’Clock, we’re heading in a darker direction, which means it will fit a little bit better with the other properties. So there’s going to be lots of crossovers this year with Netflix!"
Assuming this isn’t a sarcastic comment or just trying to drum up business, this would be awesome for many, many reasons. Firstly, the higher-ups at Marvel have made it pretty clear that Agents of SHIELD characters more than likely won’t be showing up in any Marvel Cinematic Universe movies anytime soon.
Having a crossover with the Marvel Netflix shows would give this season a tie-in to the larger MCU since its only coinciding movies this season are Doctor Strange (and who knows what will go on with that one) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which may or may not return to Earth or even remotely impact our little planet.
So how would Agents of SHIELD make a crossover—or, let’s not get carried away and just suggest a one-episode cameo—work?
The options for having the Netflix characters show up are numerous in amount. It would be easy enough to have Daisy’s reign of terror lead our SHIELD agents into Hell’s Kitchen where, on a dark evening, they encounter Daredevil and have to deal with his monologuing about his city and the injustices he must overcome for it while May rolls her eyes off to the side.
While that’s happening, you can pan off to one side to see a shadowy figure up on a nearby catwalk, taking pictures of the scene below because who the hell are these new people and what are they up to? The city doesn’t need any more shady organizations coming around.
Clark Gregg has already said (in that same panel) that he would love Iron Fist or Luke Cage (my personal favorite) to show up. How much fun would it be to have a Danny Rand cameo before Iron Fist premieres in 2017?
Heck, take it a step further. With that push to 10pm from its 9pm start time, the rumors are that the show will get a little darker. How hard would it be to have some sort of tie-in to The Defenders series that premieres late next year? It would keep the show grounded in the MCU without having an obligatory mention of an MCU movie that feels more forced than natural.
It seems as though the Defenders will be facing The Hand when they come together. Might a mention of them come through SHIELD’s speakers towards the end of the season?
Having a tie-in to any of the Netflix television shows would be a much cheaper alternative to keep the show grounded and connected to the rest of the universe, but we’ll see what season four brings!
