Gotham EP John Stevens talks several classic Batman villains who will appear in season 3

Gotham is already a show loaded with villains. Of course that won’t stop many more from appearing in the upcoming season. Along with new threats like the Court Of Owls, we know of several classic Batman villains making an appearance in season 3 of Gotham. That’s Killer Croc, Mad Hatter and Solomon Grundy. EP John Stevens touched on these villains and how they’ll appear in the show.

Stephens said we will see Killer Croc pretty early on in season 3. Croc has already been cast, but Stephens wouldn’t divulge the name, only saying “he’s not somebody famous right now”. Adding:

"The Killer Croc thing we’ll see right at the beginning of the series. We’ll see like a proto version of that."

Solomon Grundy will be centered around the idea of reincarnation, and will be appearing later in the season:

"It’s difficult to do that without giving too much away but the idea of one is reincarnation, which is one where we obviously already crossed that hurdle. And the idea that someone would want to create reincarnation? Who out there would want to be interested in reincarnation?"

Of the new villains coming to the third season of Gotham, the one we probably know the most about at this point is Jervis Tetch, The Mad Hatter. We know he will be played by actor Samuel Benedict, we know what he looks like, and we know he’s a hypnotist looking for his sister, Alice. Stevens expanded on how this Hatter is an amalgamation of versions from several sources:

"I feel like the character’s an amalgam as much anything. There’s a little bit of the reality from the Brubaker books but also from the New 52 and the Snyder books. There’s some of that, too. From the Batman Mad series in terms of the emotional drive that he has. Benedict [Samuel] is definitely taller than most versions of Jervis but he plays it with a level of naturalistic insanity that I think, he really fills out that pantheon really, really well."

It will certainly be interesting to see these famous villains in Gotham’s third season. What twists are put on them and how they interact with both heroes and villains. Gotham returns for its third season on Fox September 19th.
