Will “Doctor Strange” Have A Cameo From An Avenger?
Rumors run rampant about an Iron Man cameo in the upcoming “Doctor Strange” Movie…
Tony Stark has a full plate. He shows up wherever he wants, causing havoc along the way (see: Ultron, siding with the Sokovia Accords). Now the rumor mill says he might show up in this fall’s Doctor Strange.
Here’s how this rumor came about: Rumors of Doctor Strange having additional shooting came about a few weeks ago, but then the host of the Seven Days a Geek podcast tweeted this nugget:
No one else has said a word regarding this, and a fan podcast stating this means absolutely nothing. Then again… Marvel lets Robert Downey Jr. pretty much do whatever he wants, because why not let Robert Downey Jr. do whatever he wants?
So let’s have some fun with this rumor.
We know Tony Stark will be in Spider-Man: Homecoming, which premieres next summer. His cameo in Doctor Strange may tie in threads for Spider-Man. Since the Avengers now sit in tatters after Captain America: Civil War, maybe Tony’s looking for people to side with him now that Cap’s on the loose (though in the Civil War comics, Doctor Strange stays out of the whole fray and just meditates). Maybe he just wants to talk about their mutual love of Sherlock Holmes. It’s possible he might use his tie to Spider-Man to somehow convince Doctor Strange to join his side of the Avengers, but when has Tony’s logic made sense?
Or the easiest explanation: Tony shows up in a post-credits scene. Have the same as Ant-Man and make the post-post-credits scene all about the next MCU release (Ant-Man’s was Cap and Falcon with Bucky for Civil War).
But Spider-Man: Homecoming isn’t next up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That honor belongs to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 next May. Doctor Strange has reality bending, so how much would they have to stretch to bring in Peter Quill? It would also tie Guardians back into earth, as the other rumor is our favorite misfit heroes will be in Infinity War.
Then again, why does this rumor have to be Iron Man? What about Captain America? He broke out his friends from superhero prison at the end of Civil War, then perhaps he is recruiting as well. Why not go after a new face? To have Doctor Strange as an ally definitely turns the tides in their favor. How badly is Captain America wanted and will coming out of the shadows get him caught?
Or what about Squirrel Girl showing up? She’s being thrown around lately for a Marvel movie, from Anna Kendrick, to Shannon Purser who plays Barb in Stranger Things, to John Barrowman’s cosplay at this year’s SDCC. After all, if we got a Howard the Duck post-credits scene, why not a Squirrel Girl? (Then again, probably not…)
Take the tweet about Iron Man in Doctor Strange with a grain of salt. It’s one tweet in an internet full of rumors, and we know how often rumors come true.
