Marvel Announces New Wave Of Cosplay Variants

This fall Marvel will be releasing a second series of their popular cosplay variants featuring new characters and new cosplayers.

Go to any comic book convention and you will likely see cosplayers everywhere. Cosplaying, which is dressing up as your favorite fictional character, has exploded in popularity over the last decade. Since then, a former fringe hobby has now become mainstream.

Hence, there are now magazines about cosplay, Facebook pages, how-to books and videos and even professional cosplayers.

Yes. There are people who now get paid to dress up as superheros. Do we live in an incredible age or what?

Last year, Marvel celebrated cosplay culture by featuring some of the most popular cosplayers on a series of variant covers. Because the books proved to be a big hit, Marvel has announced that they are going to do it again.

This September and October, Marvel will be releasing 15 different cosplay variants. The variants will cover a fairly diverse sampling of Marvel’s line. In addition, they will also feature a mix of returning and new cosplayers wearing all-new costumes

Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso said the idea to do a second wave was a no-brainer.

"“The response to our first set of Cosplay Variants was so incredible, we simply had to do a second wave. And, of course, we were able to find a great crop of cosplayers with some truly fantastic costumes. We’re thrilled to shine a spotlight on an ever-growing community that continues to show love for us and our characters.”"
