Hear Stephen King’s Batman Story

Stephen King has a rather unusual Batman short story you can hear now

Stephen King is easily of the most popular and prolific writers of our time. He’s certainly a master of horror and suspense with such classics as IT, Carrie & Cell (I LOVED CELL). But while he may be best known for terrifying readers, it’s easy to forget King has shown he can write many genres incredibly well. The Green Mile, Rita Hayworth & The Shawshank Redemption, The Dark Tower series, The Stand and many other shows Stephen King has an incredibly wide range as an author.

King is also a huge Batman fan. Like to the extent that he wrote an essay about why he likes Batman over other super-powered Superheroes such as Superman. What the essay boils down to is that while extremely unlikely, Batman mostly is something that could conceivably happen. Stephen King believes something like Superman (or any super-powered hero really) is not.

So it’s not much of a surprise that King has actually written a short story involving Batman. Albeit in a roundabout way. The story itself is from a collection of short King stories titled The Bazaar Of Bad Dreams. In it, an man is suffering from Alzheimer’s and often gets dates and names mixed up. But he does fondly recall a time when he and his son dressed up as Batman and Robin for Halloween. Listen to Stephen King’s short story below:

While that is an interesting way to involve Batman & Robin in a story, I’d really like to see what Stephen King could do with a real Batman story. Granted, he remains incredibly busy, but he’s also incredibly prolific. So maybe one day we’ll get to read how King would write his favorite superhero.
