Bryan Cranston Turned Down Commissioner Gordon?

Bryan Cranston talks about his dream comic book role

Bryan Cranston is easily one of the most acclaimed actors today. And people have been clamoring for him to be in a major comic book movie. He’s certainly dipped his toes into the genre with work on the show SuperMansion & you could even count his upcoming role as Zordon in the Power Rangers Movie in that category.

But Bryan Cranston wants to tread new ground. If he’s going to play a role, he doesn’t want to just be the latest of several actors to take it on. He wants to be the first. As he explains to fellow actor/co-host of AMC’s Geeking Greg Brunberg out in this clip, Lex Luthor has been done a lot. He’s been asked to look at the role of Commissioner Gordon before. He’d rather take on something not seen on the big screen before, perhaps maybe even something a little sinister:

Next: Justice League: J.K. Simmons As Commissioner Gordon

That’s comepletely understandable. And while I’ve seen some jump to the conclusion that Cranston turned down the opportunity to play Gordon in  Justice League, it could’ve been for any number of previous projects. He has in fact played Comissioner Gordon in the animated movie, Batman: Year One. He could even be talking about that role.

I’m sure Bryan Cranston would be an excellent Mr. Sinister, but I could also suggest several DC roles he could fill that have never been on the big screen. Hugo Strange certainly comes to mind. He’s been in TV shows and video games, but never on the big screen. The Clock King, Black Mask, Calendar Man and Zsasz also come to mind. Hell Cluemaster would be a great role if they ever want to introduce Stephanie Brown/Spoiler. The point is there are at lot of great DC characters that have never been on screen that I think Mr. Cranston would do a great job as. Hopefully he’ll be cast in one of them in the not too distant future.
