It’s Christian Bale vs. Ben Affleck in the Batman v Batman trailer

Who is the best movie Batman of all time? Maybe it’s Ben Affleck. Maybe it’s Christian Bale. I think we can all agree it’s not George Clooney. Whoever your favorite take on the Caped Crusader is, it’s too bad we can’t see a movie where one takes on the other. Or could we?

That’s essentially the premise behind Screen Rant’s Batman vs. Batman trailer. Where Ben Affleck’s take on the popular superhero from the recent Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad films is pitted against Christian Bale’s own take on the guardian of Gotham from the highly acclaimed Christopher Nolan Dark Knight Trilogy.

In this trailer, the premise seems to be that two Caped Crusaders exist, but Christian Bale believes Affleck to be nothing more than a deranged imposter.  Also a random shot of 1989 Batman Michael Keaton is in there, even if it doesn’t rally go with the rest of the trailer. Check it out below:

Actually, more than anything else, this trailer highlights how much better the Nolan films understand the character of Batman than Zack Snyder does. Defenders of the super dark and grim BvS say it’s like the Nolan movies, and it’s real and dark. That much is true.

But the key difference is the Dark Knight himself. Bale even says it in this very trailer. “I was meant to inspire good, not madness”. It’s that simple. It’s what makes Batman a special kind of hero. He can be utterly surrounded by darkness, but he doesn’t give into it. He’s a hopeful symbol to Gotham, not some dangerous nutjob vigilante like The Punisher. Hopefully Warner Bros. has figured that out and we’ll see it in Justice League.
