Batwoman Getting Own Comic Series In 2017
Batwoman is getting her own solo series in February of next year
Batwoman has been at the forefront of DC’s Rebirth, co-starring with Batman as an equal partner in the Detective Comics series. But she’ll be getting a chance to really break out on her own next year in the just announced ongoing solo Batwoman title due out in February of next year.
The comic itself will be spun out of a story arc in Detective Comics titled “Batwoman Begins” co-written by James Tynion IV and Marguerite Bennett. The series will start off with Batwoman tracking down the venom used in the Night Of Monster Men crossover, which is being sold around the globe as a bioweapon.
Marguerite Bennett will be the writer on the series, and had this to say about working in the title:
"There has never been a heroine I have loved more than Batwoman, Her flaws, her ferocity, her struggle to rise above her own history and find a way to serve the greater good and those she loves, she’s always cut me straight to the bone. To be a queer woman and to see a queer woman as not just a part but a pillar of the Bat-family was life changing, inspiring and gave me the courage to pursue this career in comics. The opportunity to add to Kate Kane’s story and legacy is both an honor and a sincere dream come true."
The artist on the book will be Steve Epting, who is mostly known for his work at Marvel. He had this to say about coming onto the comic:
"I am very excited for the opportunity to work on Batwoman, I love the character design and how she fits into the whole Batman mythos, and I’m looking forward to the artistic opportunities the story will provide. Batwoman has a rich visual history and I’m thrilled to be a part of it!"
Next: Batman & Nightwing Rift After Night Of The Monster Men
I’m definitely excited for Kate Kane to get her own title again. Bennett has done some great work on Bombshells and learned under the fantastic Scott Snyder, so I’m super interested to see what she can do with this title. Batwoman will launch in February 2017.
