The Flash: Questions Abound After “Flashpoint”

The Season 3 premiere of The Flash marks the debut of the comic book event “Flashpoint.” We dissect how the TV adaptation will reverberate throughout the entire season.

The Flash wasted no time introducing the “Flashpoint” universe to the hit CW show. After rescuing his mother from the Reverse Flash, Barry took the villain back to the altered present as his prisoner.

By the episode’s end, Barry saw the error of his ways and tried to put things back to the way they were. However, there seems to be lingering effects leftover from “Flashpoint.” How will they play out during the rest of the season? Let’s take a look.

More from TV

First up, Kid Flash’s arch-nemesis, The Rival, will play a factor going forward. Even though his universe no longer exists, teaser videos show the speedster sticks around. Instead of having to prepare for an inexperienced Flash, The Rival gets the real deal on Barry Allen.

In many ways, “Flashpoint” reminds me of one of the many Earth’s that exist in the DC Universe. When The Flash visited Earth-2, it contained alternate takes on many supporting characters like Iris and Joe West, Caitlin Snow, and Cisco Ramon. We saw the same thing in “Flashpoint.” Cisco went from a helpful science nerd to a billionaire science nerd. Detective Joe West went from an accomplished police officer to a lazy bum. “Flashpoint” might as well be Earth-10 in the DCTV hierarchy.

How long will it be before Wally West dons his Kid Flash attire again? Wally and Jesse Wells were both struck by a Speed Force blast inside S.T.A.R. Labs before Season 2 ended. In the comics, they both become superhero speedsters.

All Barry wanted was to live in a world where both his parents were alive. He ultimately wised up and tried to fix his mistake.
