A teaser trailer for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” hit the internet today. We’re here to tell you just why you should be excited for more than just baby Groot

Out of the blue, after revealing the first poster, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 premiered a teaser trailer. And here we thought we’d be happy enough with the poster for one day!

If you happened to miss it or just don’t want to click on the hyperlink above, we’ve got you covered below:

You know what’s the best about this? Not just that we have new footage of a movie I cannot wait for. No–as it turns out, this isn’t even the actual teaser. It’s a teaser for sure, but check out James Gunn’s tweet below:

You may remember that the first Guardians of the Galaxy has a special place in my heart for many reasons. My excitement for the sequel should come as no surprise.

Then again, I get excited for every new Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.

But in all seriousness, look at baby Groot in all his adorable glory:

If you look closely at him at the end with Rocket, you’ll notice him sporting a jacket not unlike Star-Lord’s.

Marvel took a risk when they chose GotG instead of a more mainstream superhero (or set of superheroes). Vol. 2 will take the same kind of risks (minor spoilers ahead).

I mean, already we know that Peter Quill’s father is Ego, the Living Planet, played by Kurt Russell. And it looks like both Yondu and Nebula will join forces with our Guardians. It always makes for a fun dynamic when you have one-time enemies fighting next to your heroes.

James Gunn has gone on record to say that the female characters will have stronger, better storylines in the sequel. That bodes well, as Nebula needs to have a bigger role than she did in the first movie. And both her and Gamora need to be more than just living weapons (or romantic plot devices).

But most importantly, I don’t think this movie will fall into the standard sequel trappings. Just look at the company this movie keeps in the rest of Phase Three. From the visually weird Doctor Strange, Black Panther’s surprising standout role in Captain America: Civil War, and whatever Taika Waititi will do with Thor: Ragnarok, keeping things weird may be what keeps Phase Three running smoothly.

None of us knew what to expect from the first GotG and look at what we got. The short glimpses in this teaser should only lend excitement.

Get ready to see this on the big screen in a few weeks when Doctor Strange rolls into theaters!
