Batman: Arkham Origins Online Multi-Player Being Retired In December
WB Games Montreal is ending support for the online multi-player portion of Arkham Origins
Quick, which Batman game had multi-player? Yeah, I had no idea any of them did. So it makes sense that what is essentially the red-headed stepchild of the Arkham series, Arkham Origins, a game whose existence is barely acknowledged by its own publisher, would be the entry where they tried to shoehorn in an extremely unnecessary multi-player component.
And with the game not being nearly as successful as other games in the Arkham series, it’s not surprising that a mere 3 years after release, support for the online multi-player of Arkham Origins is being shut down. This was announced in a brief statement on the Warner Bros Interactive forums:
"As of December 4, 2016, the online services portion of Batman: Arkham Origins will be retired We thank those that have joined us to battle over the last 3 years. The Single player campaign may still be played and enjoyed offline. For any questions relating to Batman: Arkham Origins, please contact WB Games customer service http://support.wbgames.com/"

Of course this just seems to be one of the relatively recent examples of multi-player being shoehorned into what is clearly a single-player game with little thought to how it actually fits into the series and if you even need it. See the Uncharted series for more examples of this. Warner Bros. is probably going to make more games in the Arkham series, will they try to add in multi-player once again now that Rocksteady is no longer involved in the franchise at all? Will the next game just be a free-to-play MOBA with called Arkham World to try and capitalize on the latest trends? The future of Batman in video games is filled with some terrifying possibilities…
