Harley Quinn Spin-Off Has A Writer
Christina Hodson will be writing the Harley Quinn spin-off. And a solo movie about the Transformer Bumblebee…
Despite some pretty tepid reviews, Suicide Squad was a ginormous hit a the box office, and one of the biggest reasons was Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Even most of the bad reviews praised her performance as the first big screen appearance of Joker’s paramour.
So it’s not a huge surprise that a spin-off with Harley Quinn as a major focus is in development. It’s not necessarily a solo project. There are rumors of the Birds Of Prey being heavily involved and it’s more seen as a female-centric superhero movie. Margot Robbie will of course return as Quinn but she’s also the one really driving this thing as she pitched the idea to Warner Bros. and will be executive producer on the film.
Now it seems the film has also landed a writer. Christina Hodson is being reported as the screenwriter for this upcoming female-focused superhero film, which will most likely include a number of women both villainess & heroine from the pages of DC Comics. Christina Hodson is actually more well known for her scripts that have yet to be produced, most of them ending up on Hollywood’s “Black List”. Many scripts on that list do eventually get produced but it takes awhile. Ben Affleck’s best-picture winner Argo was on that list, for example. This weekend’s new movie Shut In is from a script she wrote. And she wrote a script for a movie starring Bumblebee from the Transformers that is getting made into a movie as well.

Well, Shut-In looks terrible. And do I even need to talk about how bad an idea a solo Bumblebee is? The Transformers movies are terrible and Bumblebee doesn’t even talk (at least last I saw, I checked out after the second one). I suddenly don’t have a ton of optimism about this project. Maybe as Executive Producer she’ll throw her weight around enough to make sure we get a good movie.
