Gotham: Taylor On Oswald’s Sexuality
Gotham’s Robin Lord Taylor explains that Oswald would latch on to just about anyone who showed him respect and was there for him
Mayor Oswald Cobblepot reached a significant character point this season on Gotham when he realized he wanted to be more than just best friends with his Chief Of Staff, Edward Nygma. But before he could confess his feeling to Ed, Nygma ran into Isabella, and they seemed to almost instantly fall for one another.
Now if you are completely caught up on Gotham, I won’t spoil how that relationship goes, but think of that city and what has become of literally every single romantic relationship on that show and you’ll have a pretty good idea of it’s potential future.
But is Oswald Cobblepot gay, or is he just in love with Nygma specifically? Robin Lord Taylor himself clarified this during a panel at the Rhode Island Comic Con this past weekend:
"So, this is why I say he’s not gay. I find him to be a very emotionally-fractured person, emotionally-vulnerable. And after the loss of both his mother and his father — coincidentally both dying in his arms, the only people he ever loved and trusted — the person who was there who gave him respect and really there for him was Edward Nygma. And I truly believe that had it been Barbara, or Tabitha, or Butch… Yes, Butch! I believe that if it had been anyone else that had been there in that same capacity that he had that connection with, regardless if they were male or female, he would’ve had that same obsession with."

So if Oswald is ultimately rejected by Ed (which based on the last episode, will probably happen, and possibly in a rather violent fashion), where does Oswald seek solace? This might just end up being a running theme with him. Keep watching Gotham Mondays on Fox to find out!
