Justice League Dark is going to be the first superhero movie, animated or otherwise, of 2017

DC is set to have a very big  2017 in theaters with Wonder Woman & Justice League, but their animation division is having a huge presence next year as well, starting with Justice League Dark!

You can check out the official box art for the Blu-Ray release of Justice League Dark in the featured pic (I’ll talk more about that in a second). And it has a release date as well! That’s January 24th on Digital HD and February 7th on Blu-Ray and DVD. The will be a deluxe giftset that comes with a Constantine action figure. Check out the synopsis and list of special features for Justice League Dark below:

"When innocent civilians begin committing unthinkable crimes across Metropolis, Gotham City and beyond, Batman must call upon mystical counterparts to eradicate this demonic threat to the planet. Enter Justice League Dark, reluctantly led by the Hellblazer himself, John Constantine. Like Batman, Constantine is a cunning, often cynical loner who is the best at his chosen profession – but quickly realizes the sinister forces plaguing the planet will require help from other supernatural alliances. Forming a new “league” with sorceress Zatanna, otherworldly Deadman, and Jason Blood and his powerful alter ego Etrigan the Demon, this team of Dark Arts specialists must unravel the mystery of Earth’s supernatural plague and contend with the rising, powerful villainous forces behind the siege – before it’s too late for all of mankind.A Sneak Peek at Teen Titans: The Judas Contract: An advance look at the next DC Universe Original Movie, Teen Titans: The Judas Contract. The Story of Swamp Thing (Featurette): Born out of the imagination of Len Wein and artist Bernie Wrightson, Justice League Dark’s Swamp Thing had his own solo adventures throughout the history of DC. Now, Batman: Brave and The Bold is a fine show, but there are numerous episodes of Batman: The Animated series & Justice League that feature numerous characters featured in this film (specifically Zatanna & Etrigan) that would have been better options.

But what I truly have an issue with is that box art. It’s not Justice League Dark, it’s Batman and some other dudes. Batman has more importance in this movie than anybody on John Constantine’s team of supernatural ne’er do wells. At least from a marketing standpoint.

I mean, if they shoehorned Robert Downey Jr. into Guardians of The Galaxy, that would’ve been dumb right? It’s the same here. You are shoehorning in Batman into a world he doesn’t belong in with people who frankly don’t need him. I really hope it’s not at the cost of making the team look basically incompetent since the rest of the regular Justice League is in the film as well. Once again, Justice League Dark is out January 24th on Digital HD and February 7th on Blu-Ray.
