James Remar is James Gordon’s Uncle Frank on Gotham

I think most of us have got that one estranged uncle we don’t really talk to. James Gordon on Gotham has one. He’s been out of his life for 25 years. Frank abandoned the family after his brother (Jim’s father) had a fatal car accident. But now he’s back in Gotham, trying to reconnect with his nephew. But in this city, everyone has a dark secret or an ulterior motive. Here’s the description of the character from Deadline:

"Frank Gordon is a master at playing both sides and a man who knows how to keep a secret. Frank abandoned the family after Jim’s father’s fatal car crash and now, 25 years later, he’s returned to reconnect with his estranged nephew. But Frank harbors a dark secret, one that will upset the very foundations of Jim’s world and force him into a terrible choice between saving his family and saving his city."

We don’t know when Frank Gordon will be showing up, but it will be a recurring role, and he’ll be played by actor James Remar. Remar is probably best known as the dad on the Showtime series Dexter, but he has an incredibly long and varied body of work including many voice roles on superhero cartoon shows. Though this is his first role in a live-action comic book show.

My guess is this dark secret is a connection to the Court of Owls. And that it’s also one James’ father had. It’s the only thing I could think of that might put the whole city in jeopardy. I think Jim has mostly come back from his dark side, and hey he’s already had the foundations of his world rocked multiple times. Odds are he’ll be perfectly fine with sacrificing an uncle who’s obviously done some bad stuff to save his city.
