New Batman Arkham Game In Development?
WB Montreal seems to be developing a new open-world Batman game…
Rocksteady Games, the developer of the Batman Arkham series, has repeatedly stated that their very last game featuring the Caped Crusader was Arkham Knight VR. They may be done with the franchise, but the Batman Arkham series is such a huge cash cow, it’s hard to imagine Warner Bros. just letting it die, at least not without another studio getting a shot at continuing the franchise.
And these new videos from WB Montreal seem to suggest they are developing a new Arkham game that is a continuation of the series. In both videos, they are talking about a game that features the larger DC Universe. In the videos they show early footage of a game in the progress of development. It’s only mentioned that this is a DC open-world game, not that it’s specifically a Batman game, but it is one featuring a larger universe, so it could finally be the one that sees other members of the Justice League involved. Check out the videos below:
This might also fit with rumors that came around earlier this year that WB Montreal has 2 DC games in development. One based on Suicide Squad, but that’s described as more of a Borderlands-esque brawler with lots of different characters to choose from. The other is another Batman game, but the twist is that it’s 10 years later and Damien Wayne is now wearing the cape and cowl.

It’s pretty obvious that Warner Bros. wants to do another Arkham game, it’s just too much potential money laying on the table to not at least give the franchise another shot. Whether or not WB Montreal are the right developers for the job is another matter. No matter how you look at it, they made the weakest entry in the Arkham series, even if it was perfectly competent. Hopefully if they are getting a second chance, they’ll really step it up. I think even if this is in development and on track for a 2017 release, the earliest we’d see something is E3….
