Gotham: Ben McKenzie To Direct An Episode
Ben McKenzie will be in the director’s chair for an upcoming episode of Gotham
Sometimes what actors really want to do is direct. Ben McKenzie’s been acting for about 14 years, but has never really gotten the chance to direct. Until now. He’ll be stepping into the director’s seat for an upcoming episode of his hit Fox show, Gotham.
McKenzie has wanted to direct for a long time, having shadowed directors for years. He almost got an opportunity to on his previous show, Southland, but that fell through. McKenzie revealed that he was directing an episode of Gotham during a Facebook Live interview:
"There will be another Gordon family member that will be introduced, so I can tease that. Actually, that’s part of the episode that I get to direct.Yes, my first time ever directing. I’m so excited. I start prepping right before Christmas and start shooting right after. So, very soon. I’m reading the outlines right now."
The other Gordon family member McKenzie is referring to is Jim Gordon’s Uncle, Frank, who will be played by actor James Remar. Here’s a character description of Frank Gordon:
"Frank Gordon is a master at playing both sides and a man who knows how to keep a secret. Frank abandoned the family after Jim’s father’s fatal car crash and now, 25 years later, he’s returned to reconnect with his estranged nephew. But Frank harbors a dark secret, one that will upset the very foundations of Jim’s world and force him into a terrible choice between saving his family and saving his city."

We don’t know exactly what episode this is, but seeing as McKenzie is just now looking at the outlines, it’s obviously going to be in the later half of season 3. If he does a good job, I’m sure he’ll get more opportunities, possibly even on other shows, in the future. Watch Gotham’s mid-season finale this Monday on Fox!
