Six Thoughts We Had Watching The “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” Trailer

Marvel dropped a new trailer for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” last night and it was everything we’ve ever wanted. Here are six thoughts on it.

If you missed the latest Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 trailer, please take a moment and watch it over here.

Because it is everything you have ever wanted in the sequel. And more.

Here are six thoughts upon watching this trailer repeatedly. (I swear I don’t go overboard with the overreacting).

1. Baby Groot is everything

Look, we all kind of knew we weren’t going to get fully grown Groot again. No longer is he confined to his pot of rocks and soil, but he can freely move around again.

And he’s so stinking cute! His tiny voice! His little gasp! And his inability to understand or listen to what Rocket says.

2. The Rocket and Groot dynamic remains

Rocket and Groot’s friendship was one of the highlights of the first Guardians of the Galaxy. And despite Groot dying (for lack of a better term), it seems their dynamic hasn’t changed much.

I mean, think of the first movie where Rocket tells Groot not to drink out of the fountain, it’s disgusting. And Groot does it anyway, multiple times. Rocket’s “do not touch this button” speech pretty much emphasizes the same thing.

Groot still doesn’t comprehend. And Rocket still gets irrationally angry about it.

(Bonus thought: Remember how long it took them to reveal Bradley Cooper’s voice for the first movie? It’s nice to have him leading the charge for this new trailer.)

3. Our first look at Mantis!

She’s a new addition to the lineup. All we have seen of her before this is in the concept art to the left.

Her look in this movie is a departure from her portrayal in the comics. Played by actress Pom Klementieff, she seems as every bit naive in the ways of socializing that you would expect. It’ll be fun to see just how the team ends up meeting her and how she plays a part in their plans.

4. Drax seems much less literal

He is spending all of his time in the company of humans and aliens. And he did begin to grasp what a metaphor is at the end of the first movie (sort of!). Between the “dancers” line in the first teaser and shouting “screw you” in this one, Drax seems to have loosened up.

Plus his hysterical laugh at the end is incredibly infectious.

5. Where are Nebula and Yondu?

They were glimpsed in the first trailer, Yondu more than Nebula, and are nowhere to be found in this one. Yondu and his Ravagers are probably pursuing Quill thanks to that betrayal at the end of the first movie. And who knows where Nebula winds up? She cut off her own hand and stole a ship the last we saw her.

Of course, a trailer isn’t going to reveal all of the movie’s surprises. We’ll just have to wait and see when they show up and side with our ragtag team of a-holes.

6. But seriously, Baby Groot wins

What else can you say? This movie could be two and a half hours of just Baby Groot saying “I am Groot” and it would be the best. Size obviously doesn’t matter, either, because while he’s maybe a foot tall, he can still grow huge vines from his hands and take down his enemies.

He’s a badass.

So what are your thoughts on the trailer? One thing is for certain: May 5, 2017 can’t get here soon enough.
