By Matt Conner
X-O Manowar returns in 2017 for an epic story linking writer Matt Kindt with five high-profile artists. What can readers expect for the next year of the Visigoth king?
Last week, Valiant released the following cryptic image:
Today, Valiant officially announces that X-O Manowar comes back in 2017 for a five-part adventure on an alien world.
Closing Robert Venditti’s million-copy run, X-O’s fiftieth issue gave the king dangerous truces and a rest from his war. But five months later, writer Matt Kindt (Ninjak, Rai) sends Aric of Dacia to a dangerous new world. He wants to enjoy retirement and tend to his crops. But when has that ever worked out?
The first arc will team Kindt with artist Tomas Giorello (Bloodshot Reborn) for SOLDIER, conscripting Aric into a bizarre army. The next arc, GENERAL, will have Doug Braithwaite on art duties, reuniting with X-O after his work on the Armor Hunters event. Next, Kindt’s Rai collaborator, Clayton Crain, will bring his digital painting to EMPEROR before a brief INTERLUDE by The Dying & The Dead‘s Ryan Bodenheim. Finishing the story with the VISIGOTH arc will be Bloodshot Reborn‘s Mico Suayan.
Readers can expect covers by artists like Lewis LaRosa, Kenneth Rocafort, Mico Suayan, J. G. Jones, and Monica Palosz.
Valiant’s Chief Creative Officer and CEO Dinesh Shamdasani says, “Over the coming weeks, we’ll be unveiling a simply massive slate of surprises that are going to add extra fuel to X-O Manowar’s fire in comics, video games, and even film. 2017 will be the year of X-O Manowar not just for Valiant, but for the entire comics industry.”
Valiant Editor-In-Chief Warren Simons praises Matt Kindt as “a genius-level creator… tapping into the essential core of our most iconic character to deliver something more ambitious, more far-reaching, and more fantastic than anything Valiant has ever attempted before,” and promises, “when X-O emerges on the other side, we’ll be looking at a very different and much larger Valiant Universe.”
X-O Manowar #1 hits shelves March 22, 2017.
