Telltale’s Batman saga concludes with the release of episode 5 next week

Well congrats on Telltale to sticking to a pretty tight schedule. It all comes down to this Tuesday, December 13th, as their unique take on Batman concludes with episode 5, “City Of Light”. Here’s a press release from Telltale Games describing the final chapter of their version of the Dark Knight:

"In Episode 5, the leader of the Children of Arkham prepares to execute the final act of a plan to destroy the Wayne family name, and the people closest to you are in their path of vengeance. Can Batman’s ultimate secret be kept – his very identity – when it is causing chaos and death in Gotham? The fate of the Wayne family and of the city itself rests on your choices. What will you do? How far will you go? Which mask will you wear?"

The press release also notes that episode 5 will begin very differently for players depending on your decision at the end of episode 4. Did you go to Wayne Tower to confront Penguin, or go to Wayne Manor to protect your home from Mayor Harvey Dent and his squad? Hey, a decision that actually has real impact maybe?

Granted, maybe just maybe episode 5 of Telltale’s Batman will manage to wrap things up in a satisfying manner (while still leaving at least a couple threads open for an almost inevitable season two), but I’m seriously doubting it. None of the choices made through the first 4 episodes seem to have actually had any impact on the story. Dent is Two-Face (yet somehow still mayor?), your family’s reputation is ruined, Oswald is head of Wayne Corp even though he was a bum in episode one and not remotely qualified to even be a figurehead. We’ll see if Telltale Games can pull off a minor narrative miracle when episode 5 of Batman: City Of Light comes out on pretty much every platform December 13th.
