Justice League 2 Pushed Back To Make Room For Batman
We’ll have to wait longer for the already in development Justice League sequel because Warner Bros decided to prioritize the solo Batman film first
Justice League isn’t even out until next year, but a sequel is already in the planning stages. Though this shouldn’t be a surprise. The original plan was for big screen debut of DC’s premiere superhero team to be an epic two-part movie with both parts filmed back to back. After the reception for Batman v Superman, though Zack Snyder was kept on board as director, plans changed for there to still be two Justice League films, but they wouldn’t be treated as two-parts of one story.
Zack Snyder is still on board to direct the Justice League sequel. But according to The Hollywood Reporter, it has now been pushed back in favor of Ben Affleck’s upcoming solo Batman film. So what does that mean?
Well firstly, while Snyder was all set up to go right to work on the sequel, he will now instead use the spare time to film The Last Photograph, a long in-development thriller. It also means that while the Batman solo movie is almost definitely filming this year, there’s a good chance we won’t see it until 2019. That’s when Justice League 2 was originally slated to come out. If Batman was coming out in 2018, there’d be little reason to push back any DC movie coming out in 2019, really.

No specific reason was given for the push back in favor of Batman, but I’ve got an easy guess. After the disappointment of Batman v Superman, Warner Bros. decided to still stick with Zack Snyder because they were on a tight schedule and didn’t want to go back to the drawing board yet again. However, if Justice League is received poorly and doesn’t perform to financial expectations, that really has to be it for Snyder. And this would give them time to find a new director for the sequel. Just a hunch, but I’m willing to bet the future of Snyder working on any future DC films hinges on Justice League being a huge smash hit and nothing less.
