Ben Affleck gives an update on the solo Batman movie

Joe Manganiello says that the Batman movie will start shooting next year. So has Jeremy Irons. But what about Batman himself? Ben Affleck is not only the star of the upcoming, still untitled solo Batman film, he’s also co-writing and directing it. So if anybody knows when the movie will start filming, it’s Ben Affleck.

In speaking to a crowd about his career and upcoming projects during a Facebook event by the New York Times, Affleck noted that he is still working on the script for the Caped Crusader’s DCEU solo adventure:

"I’m a real believer in not reverse engineering projects to meet a window or a date. So, that’s what we’re doing"

Affleck further pushed that point, saying that much like directors such as Tim Burton & Christopher Nolan, he wanted to make a good, iconic film worthy of the Dark Knight:

"I’m really mindful of that. I’m not in any hurry to jam a mediocre film down the pipe"

It’s good that Ben Affleck is committed to the quality of the movie. And it’s not like he’s new at this. Affleck has written and directed several movies that have received high critical acclaim and numerous awards the last few years. But what does Ben’s commitment to not releasing the solo Batman movie until he feels its ready mean? I think it means that while it certainly could start shooting this year, it makes a 2019 release for the film all the more likely, which makes the fact of Warner Bros. pushing back the Justice League sequel make more sense. In the meantime, you can see Ben Affleck suit up as Batman next year, November 17th for Justice League!
