Ben Affleck: Daredevil Pushed Me To Take On Batman
Ben Affleck said he wanted to do a superhero movie right after the failure of Daredevil
Ben Affleck is Batman. And most people like him in that role after being one of the few bright aspects of Batman v Superman. To the extent where most people are pretty excited about the fact that Affleck is co-writing, directing and starring in a Batman film (that will hopefully be in theaters by 2019).
But when Ben Affleck was cast as the Caped Crusader, there was a fair amount of skepticism. Part of that was definitely due to the fact that Affleck had been down this road before. He starred in the fairly laughable 2003 move Daredevil. It was one of several career lows during that period.
Affleck managed to bounce back with acclaimed roles and work behind the scenes as a director, producer and screenwriter. But could he ever tackle another big superhero role? Would he even want to after Daredevil was such a disaster?
Then Warner Bros. came to Ben Affleck about playing the role of Batman for their new cinematic universe. Affleck says it was actually Daredevil’s failure that pushed him to make good on a quality superhero movie:
"That’s the movie I want to do I want to be a part of that. Part of it was I wanted for once to get one of these movies and do it right – to do a good version. I hate Daredevil so much. It frustrated me. The Netflix show does really cool stuff. I feel like that was there for us to do with that character, and we never kind of got it right. I wanted to do one of those movies and sort of get it right."

Honestly my only skepticism upon hearing Ben Affleck was cast as Batman was he might be a little old for someone just starting in a long term-cinematic universe. But he was great in Batman v Superman and I think we all have some optimism about him delivering one awesome Batman movie.
