Greg Silverman Says Batman Out In 2018

Greg Silverman pointed out Batman as one of Warner Bros. big guns in 2018

So just a day or so ago, Ben Affleck was saying that his Batman solo movie won’t be rushed. It’ll be done when he feels its ready. Didn’t mean it was going to take forever, but it damn sure sounded like the odds of us seeing the Caped Crusader in a solo movie on the big screen in 2018 were slim.

Then Affleck says today that the movie is coming together and is on track to shoot in the Spring. Still, does that mean a 2018 release is in the cards? After all, this movies are often given very specific dates they are to be released on, and for good reason. If the plans were for Warner Bros. to release Batman in 2019, that’s when it would still likely be released.

But now it seems we have confirmation that Ben Affleck’s solo Batman movie is indeed slated for a release in 2018. This comes from Greg Silverman, who stepped down from his positon as  President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production today, but had something to say about Warner Bros. movie plans over the next two years:

"Next year, Batman Lego looks like a monster, and King Kong looks like a global hit and we have Chris Nolan’s Dunkirk, and King Arthur, and Wonder Woman, which is such a joy for the studio and fans. Zack Snyder’s Justice League is a big film, and there are others like CHiPS, which feels like a real franchise for the studio. And Toby Emmerich’s films are also really humming. Then in 2018, there is a second Fantastic Beasts film, and Ready Player One feels like an ambitious movie by the world’s best filmmaker, Steven Spielberg, that will set the world on fire. There is Aquaman with James Wan, and Scooby Doo will be a huge launch and then there is Lego Ninjago. And then there is Ben Affleck’s Batman"

So between this statement and Ben Affleck saying the Batman movie is on track to shoot this Spring, it seems likely that the movie will be out in 2018. Great! But then why push Justice League 2 back? My guess is that they cleared a wide swath for wherever the movie could possibly drop, be it 2018 or 2019. That certainly leaves the possibility of Gotham City Sirens, the female-villain focused Harley Quinn movie, which is supposedly being fast tracked, to come out in 2019…
