“Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD: Slingshot” Recap And Review: Episodes 1-3

“Agents of SHIELD: Slingshot” brings Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez into the mix, giving her a story that takes place right when Coulson steps down as Director

Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD: Slingshot fills the void between the winter finale and the spring return. Even if the spring return is in January. With no Agent Carter or Marvel’s Most Wanted, SHIELD’s break is a lot smaller this season.

But that’s okay. Because it gives us enough time for a new digital series: Slingshot. Each episode is between three and six minutes long, and they’re fun little breathers.

Below we have fun recaps for the first three episodes. Enjoy as you watch along!

Episode I: Vendetta

In the present day, Elena wanders in on Daisy early in the morning, trying to get back into her old routine. She mentions that Daisy should also prep for the bureaucracy Mace will put her through; Daisy brushes it off, already having to deal with meet-and-greets.

“So maybe we should get our stories straight about that night,” Elena says, causing Daisy to freak out.

In the past, Elena waits to meet Director Mace and tries to access the computer system. Of course she doesn’t have clearance. Coulson wanders in and they have a nice bonding moment. She wants to talk about a criminal from her country, but Coulson says talk to Mace.

This particular man had killed Elena’s cousin, but she had yet to find out how powerful he has become. Or know that he’s stolen something very Tesseract-looking.

Fun Cameos: A mention of Peggy Carter! And a Stan Lee cameo in the form of a picture from Coulson’s office!

Episode II: John Hancock

Elena still waits for Mace, who finally arrives, speaking very American-accented Spanish. He pulls up her file and blasts it up on the wall and immediately has her sign the Sokovia Accords. Mace assures her she can do some good.

Except when she tries to bring up the Columbian arms dealer headed to the US, she gets shut down. She gets told to file a claim that will get sent to the UN, and if they deem it a viable thread, she could be part of the task force involved. No guarantees.

Because Quake is still on the loose. They don’t need more enhanced vigilantes running around.

Mace whisks Elena away to the lab where FitzSimmons will finish up her registration in the next episode. But before she leaves, Elena uses her powers to snag Mace’s security badge out of the coat jacket on his chair.

Episode III: Progress

Don’t mess around with Fitz and his TV. That’s the lesson here.

But seriously, Elena runs a diagnostics report on the Columbian arms dealer while FitzSimmons bicker about a television. And then she distracts them more by asking Simmons if they have thought about moving off-base into an apartment.

Fitz’s freakout in the background is the highlight.

Our arms dealer currently resides in Baltimore. Of course, before Elena can take off, she runs into Mack. It turns out he’s going to be her case officer going forward, so they get to spend more time together! It’s a cute way to show their relationship developing for sure.

As she watches the Zephyr leave home base, May approaches and mentions that the Director’s credentials have gone missing. Now what sort of person would be able to steal those from him unnoticed?

Now, we won’t spoil what happens in the last three episodes, as we’ll have those recaps up for you later this week, but so far it’s pretty enjoyable.

Even if it may feel like they just took segments of one full episode and put them into mini episodes. It’s a cool way to get a deeper look at one of the more minor characters in the series.

We’ll see how it turns out in Elena’s quest for justice for her cousin!
